In the summer months, extreme weather seems to be constantly in the news. In the past month we’ve heard about heat waves in Europe, snow in South America and flooding in southeast Asia – and the descriptions always come with a comparison to the hottest, coldest or wettest conditions on record. But we don’t often hear about the people who keep those records, or the challenges they face in preserving our knowledge about past environmental conditions. Carol Hunsberger talks with an archivist – Charlotte Woodley – about the role that archives play in contributing to our understanding of environmental changes.
Matt prepared this report on the Canadian Water Network workshop he attended in Alberta. In this feature he shares the aims of the network and interviews several researchers and grad students about how their work all fits together to improve watershed management.
