Safety has a major effect on the way we perceive our urban spaces. Often youth are identified as a safety problem in a community; however, youth are very much a part of the community and have safety concerns themselves. In this segment Matt Street talked with Leonore Evans, a graduate student at Carleton, about her research with youth in the Bayshore area of Ottawa and their concerns over safety in their neighbourhood.
Have you ever opened your mail box and found a light bulb inside? If so, Project Porchlight has paid you a visit. The program encourages people to replace one incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent based on the belief that actions as small and simple as changing a light bulb can have big consequences – for the environment, for our future behaviour, and even for setting government priorities. In this segment Carol Hunsberger spoke with Stuart Hickox, the executive director of One Change, about both the practical and symbolic effects of changing a bulb.
