March 13, 2008: It’s Not Easy Being Green

In honour of St. Patrick’s Day, two of today’s features looked at beer and Irish food. Matt Street took a tour of Beau’s Brewery in Vankleek Hill, finding out how this small family brewery strives to produce a craft beer that Eastern Ontario can be proud of, while taking several measures to keep their footprint as small as possible. The result? A beer that isn’t actually green, but might be the closest thing to it.

After that, Ashleigh Grange presented a culinary history of traditional Irish dishes including corned beef and cabbage, soda bread, boxty and Irish coffee. Don’t miss the rhyme about boxty!

This week Matt went “in the elevator” alone, where he thought of the best way to summarize his Master’s research on public participation and municipal water management. Finally, Paul interviewed two members of Carleton University Students for the Environment, which unfortunately we forgot to record (arrg, again!).

  • Hey guys, thanks for coming out to the brewery! It was nice to chat with you about Beau’s and what we are up to. Looks like you are doing some great work as well. Cheers! jj
